IMRORANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLUBS PROGRAM

There are no winter clubs for K & 1 boys and only one clubs for K & 1 girls. Why so few clubs for the Winter Session?

The club program is dependent on adult volunteers to lead, co-lead, and assist with clubs. Few volunteers = fewer clubs. Looking ahead to Spring Clubs, please consider leading, co-leading or assisting with a Spring Club if you are able. I have a led a club for the past six years. I am happy to share my experience with you! The spring session will not begin until after Spring Break and will run through May. Now is a good time to consider leading, co-leading or assisting with a Spring Club. New clubs are also welcomed, but there are plenty of old favorites also that haven't been offered this year. Questions? Contact Mary Nalepa, TRES PTA Clubs Coordinator nalepajm@yahoo.com, 301 829-3691 or click on the Clubs Program tab at www.TRESPTA.org for more information!

Background: The TRES Clubs Program started as an extension of the Renzulli Enrichment Program at TRES. When that program was cut at TRES, the Clubs Program was so valued that it continued in 2007 as a combined effort of the school and the TRES PTA. Over 25 clubs a year have been available to students during the last three school years. There have been approximately 200-300 students participating in at least one club each year. Many students participate in more than one club. A wide variety of clubs have been offered to provide the TRES students with afterschool enrichment and interest exploration. These areas include academics, athletics, the arts, crafts /hobbies, community service and school involvement. Club leaders included staff members, parents and community members. Feedback received at the end of the school year surveys from club leaders and parents/participants indicate a very positive response to the clubs program.

Clubs Structure: Three Clubs session are held throughout the school year. Each session runs approximately 6-8 weeks. Clubs meet once per week. The Fall session runs October-December, the Winter session runs January- March and the Spring session runs April-May.

Registrations are sent out in the Thursday folder a 2-3 weeks before the session starts and must be returned by the deadline the following Tuesday. Clubs are popular! Unfortunately, sometimes club rosters are filled. Students that do not get into a Fall or Winter club are top priority for a Winter or Spring Club. Our aim is to have as many students participate in at least one club during the school year.

We aim to have 10-13 clubs per session available to students.

Clubs are available to all TRES K-5 students. There is no cost for TRES students to participate in the Clubs Program. Volunteers: The club program is dependent on volunteers to lead, co-lead, and assist with clubs. Approximately 50 volunteers were involved with leading or assisting with clubs during the 2009-2010 school year. Be a Clubs Program Volunteer: We are Looking for YOU! :)

  • YOU can decide the grade range for the club and the maximum number of students in the club.
